The rest of the energy is lost to engine and driveline inefficiencies and idling. Therefore, the potential to improve fuel efficiency with advanced technologies is enormous. With an Electric Car it costs just $2.00 per 100kms with MUCH more performance than with...

Find the winner by clicking "more info"! The winner is...the Tesla Roadster. This is the Tesla Roadster electric car vs. the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet (996?) in a drag race in Denmark, both tops off. Internal combustion engine versus the electric motor. With the problems of global warming most of us want to be cleaner and greener. So you would think the electric car, with no carbon emissions, would be a hit in Silicon Valley. In fact it has been a disaster, but the dream is not dead. The car is powered by ordinary lithium ion batteries, exactly the same kind you would find in laptops or smart phones. However, it needs 7000 of them, all put into a large battery case, which makes up a third of the car's total weight. The Tesla Roadster is incredibly simple. It has 12 moving parts. It needs no oil change, filters, spark plugs or clutch. Plug it in overnight and you are ready to go again in the morning. Electric engines do not wind up the...

www.edmunds.com He was tall, looked fit in his spandex bicycling gear and — the reason we were a bit nervous — he was glaring at the little silver roadster with distaste. Had we inadvertently forced him off the road on one of our passes while photographing the electric-powered 2008 Tesla Roadster? No. His problem, it turns out, is that the car is "too quiet." The Tesla, clean and silent but for the hiss of tires on asphalt and the whine of the electric motor's cooling fan, disturbed him because he didn't hear it coming as we scooted by him on a twisty section of Skyline Boulevard in the mountains above Tesla's headquarters in San Carlos, California.

On Nov 30th, the fastest production electric vehicles in the US went head-to-head. While their first meeting had a number of issues, most notably the underfilled Tango battery pack, and the Tesla's non-upgraded drivetrain, the 1/4 mile time is quite close and indicative of races to come. In this race, the Tango got 92.15mph in 14.480 seconds, beating its 14.7 "dial" handicap and thus losing the competition; the Tesla got 101.23mph in 14.666 seconds, slower than its 14.5 "dial" handicap and allowing it to proceed to the next round. (Two rounds later, the Tango's driver got behind the wheel of the Tesla and also beat its "dial" handicap... and thus lost!) Epilogue: the cars compete in...

Speed; 125 mph (201 km/h) 221 miles (356 km) range without charging Full-charge time: 3½ hours.!!!! Estimated life: over 100000 miles (160000 km). (worst case scenario many batterys have shown to triple there battery life) less than $0.01/mile approximatly so for a rough equation of how much money your saving. what would cost a 90$ in gas would cost 1 quarter in electricity! and for an electric car 0 to 60 in 5 seconds is pretty damn amazing. 0 emmisions = priceless
